Forum of Australian Chief Scientists (FACS) public lecture.

On 24 June, Professor Chubb delivered a public lecture on taking a long-term view of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) at the Harry Perkins Medical Research Institute in Perth.

The lecture followed the first-ever meeting of the Forum of Australian Chief Scientists in Western Australia.

Professor Chubb told the audience:

“Chief Scientists have been urging this country to look to the long game for a long time – as have people in similar roles all across the world.

“There have been successes, and disappointments.

“What we haven’t had until now is a national sense that this work might be important – and we have not had a national commitment to put in the effort required.”
