Backing up the planet – world battery storage

The Office of the Chief Scientist has published a fact sheet outlining the battery storage that would be needed for worldwide grid-scale energy storage.

The storage capacity of all batteries produced in 2014 could store 11 minutes and 27 seconds of global electricity demand. This paper outlines the level of battery production needed to provide up to five days of global electricity backup.
