Donna has enjoyed a long and diverse career in biomedical research, spanning the fields of asthma, iron metabolism, cell biology, lactation and secondary neurodegeneration. During her PhD at the University of Western Australia, she evaluated the anticancer potential of plants used as traditional medicines by Aboriginal peoples. Most recently, Donna's research has focused on improving outcomes for premature infants.\
