Harnessing science and technology to open doors to the future

On 10 June 2024, Australia’s Chief Scientist, Dr Cathy Foley, joined chief science advisors from four other countries for a meeting in Ottawa, Canada, to discuss coordinated scientific advice on emerging issues in AI, engineering biology, emergency preparedness and science diplomacy. 

The group of advisors consists of Cathy Foley from Australia, Mona Nemer from Canada, Juliet Gerrard from New Zealand, Angela McLean from the United Kingdom, and Arati Prabhakar from the United States.

Following the meeting, the chief science advisors have issued a joint statement affirming their commitment to providing evidence-based advice and to improving coordination across the science and research systems within and between their countries.

The statement emphasises the importance of science and technology to address today's greatest challenges, including climate change, health, security, and economic opportunity.
