INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION OF SCIENTISTS

Australia more than ever needs people with passion and curiosity about science and the world around them, according to Australia’s Chief Scientist Professor Ian Chubb.

Paying tribute to the science community at the 2015 Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science, Professor Chubb said science is at the forefront of finding solutions to big challenges.

“These prizes recognise scientists who are pushing the boundaries, making discoveries, and helping make Australia and the planet a better place,” Professor Chubb said.

“The awards also acknowledge the contribution of outstanding teachers who bring science to life in the classroom; and innovators who harness science to build new jobs.

“My great hope is that these prizes raise awareness of science across the community – and help inspire the next generation of Australians in science.”

The 2015 Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science had winners across six categories who shared in $700,000 worth of prizes.

Professor Chubb, who chaired the selection committee for four of the categories, said there were outstanding nominations.

“Tonight we honour all those involved in science,” Professor Chubb said.
