Statement on the review of the National Electricity Market

I have accepted the invitation to chair the review of Australia’s National Electricity Market.

It is an honour to take on this role. Energy security is vital to all Australians and the nation’s prosperity.

I intend to bring an evidence-based approach to the process based on my background as an engineer and scientist, and through my experience as Australia’s Chief Scientist.

The review will work to tight timeframes, delivering a preliminary report to Australian governments by December, 2016, and a final report early next year.

I will have more to say about my approach to the review next week.
